Description It is a stout, much branched spiny herb up to 1.5 m tall. The plant produces berry like green fruits with white streaks, which turn yellow after ripening. Numerous small brown coloured seeds are produced which remain embedded in sticky mucilage of fruits.
Distribution This plant found in Eastern to North Western Himalayas, Nilgri Hills and in the plains of Andra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharastra,Orissa and Tamil Nadu (India).
Economics Very important species under this genus for steroid drug industry.
